The leading manufacturer of photo wallpapers relies on the Xeikon wallpaper line to produce even more flexible and customer-specific wall designs.
Who doesn't know them, the photo wallpapers of Komar? High-quality designs and first-class photographs as modern accents for walls in the home and business world. They are not only a brand in Germany, but also in numerous other European countries, the Middle East and many other countries worldwide. Now the supplier of high-quality wall designs has decided to expand its production with a wallpaper line from Xeikon. In mid-February, a Walldeco Suite with a Xeikon 3500 five-colour digital web press including coating unit and wallpaper rewinder was installed at the Kolbermoor plant near Rosenheim.
Sabine Komar-Häusler, CEO of Komar Products GmbH & Co KG, confirms that it was a strategic and future-oriented decision: "Our customers expect more and more individualization and production tailored to their specific needs. Our selection of designs and sizes is growing. The variety of possibilities brings with it the need to keep inventories as low as possible and therefore production on demand is the only viable solution. This can be achieved with the new printing press."
To date, Komar has produced most of its wallpaper employing offset printing, supported by digital printing solutions from another manufacturer. In order to be able to produce faster, more flexible and more bespoke products Komar will now transfer parts of its existing range to the new Xeikon printing system as well as develop its own Xeikon collections. Among other things, it is planned to digitally produce the license themes, including Disney and National Geographic.
"We are convinced that Xeikon already has many years of experience in the field of digitally printed wallpaper. The Xeikon 3500, including its inline finishing units, is the latest development from the manufacturer to incorporate all this knowledge. It also offers a significant speed advantage over other digital printing technologies used in interior decoration," says Sabine Komar-Häusler.
For Komar, one of the main criteria has been the extremely high printing speed of 19.2 m/min, with which volume and costs can be optimally metand efficiency meets economics. The Xeikon 3500 simplex press with speed upgrade is equipped with a chambered doctor blade unit that offers the option of processing both water-based and UV coatings. For Komar, inline finishing also reduces the number of steps required when working on wallpaper. Previously, the first steps were printing and varnishing, then cutting, rolling and packaging. With the Xeikon, a finished wallpaper comes out of the machine. Thanks to the large width of the processable grammages, the Xeikon system is suitable for printing on thicker 150 g/m2 nonwoven materials, currently one of the most popular wallpaper materials.
