Graffiti can appear anywhere—from the side of a New York subway train to the walls of a multi-story parking garage, or even on buildings tagged by the elusive artist Banksy. While some graffiti may be considered art, the reality is that most unauthorized markings are unsightly and costly to remove. Cleanup efforts can run into the hundreds or even thousands of dollars, requiring specialized cleaning equipment and, in some cases, leading to permanent surface damage.
