More than 500,000 MH5420/5421 series printheads, also known as Ricoh's fifth generation printheads, are already being used by solution developers around the world to drive digital transformation and generate tens of billions of dollars in revenue across all industry sectors. The printheads' versatility and ability to deliver consistent, high-quality results in industrial test environments have helped to achieve this milestone.

Ricoh's MH5420/5421 series printheads are compatible with a wide range of inks, from water-based to UV, solvent and oil-based. OEMs use them for a variety of applications (including signage, textiles, labels and industrial decor) as well as for developments in printed electronics, 3D printing, pharmaceuticals and DNA printing. A key element of the product offering is comprehensive technical support and integration assistance to design waveforms and optimise nozzle settings.
Dr Karin Vercauteren, Head of Materials Technology Centre at Agfa, points out that the printhead's extensive viscosity range, powerful and stable piezo technology, and small size in particular have facilitated the integration process. She adds, "In addition, the open platform allows us to match the waveform to specific inks and applications for superior print quality."
Durst uses the MH5420/5421 series technology in conjunction with its proprietary data electronics, automatic matching algorithms in many water-based and UV ink applications and as an integral part of its modular machine systems. According to Georg Grossrubatcher, Group Technology Officer at Durst, the reliability and consistency of the printheads help to meet the demands of industrial customers for high machine availability and consistent print quality. He explains, "We can only meet these expectations with reliable printhead partners who consistently develop their inkjet technology and optimise through close collaboration with innovation partners."
Graham Kennedy, Director Industrial Print Solutions, Graphic Communications at Ricoh Europe, adds: "The consistency, reliability and performance of our fifth generation printheads, the MH5420/5421 series, have helped both these and many other global partners develop and launch new systems that have increased their sales by tens of billions of dollars. They have confidence in Ricoh's technology. The versatility of the printheads has also driven innovation across a wide range of industries, accelerating development while reducing time and financial risks.
In addition, I am proud that Ricoh is meeting market demand for a faster transition from analogue to digital technologies, enabling our partners to benefit from the process optimisations and downstream value creation of digitisation."
