Tali Digital has purchased the first Truepress Jet W3200UV HS in Africa. The press was installed in Tali Digital's Sandton premises during the last week of October, where experts from Inca Digital and Ipex Machinery ensured the process was seamless.
Orlando de Abreu, Owner, Tali Digital, decided to purchase the machine after being impressed by its speed and versatility. 'The speed is amazing, it prints at 150sqm at sellable speed, which is a major benefit. It's versatile because we can switch from roll-to-roll to flatbed printing. This machine has replaced two other machines, so it's two super functional machines in one.'
Other features that appealed to the company is the construction of the machine. 'It's well built. A lot of thought went into the engineering of the machine, and there's a high level of precision.'
De Abreu was also impressed with the service offered by Ipex Machinery. 'The in-depth training we've received on the machine, and the whole installation process, is something else. The printer had to go through a number of checks before it was signed off.'
The unique eight layer printing feature was also another selling point, as were the high amount of safety features and the automatic cleaning station. 'With UV, you have to keep the printheads clean if you want the printer to perform at its best, so the cleaning station is a very useful feature.'
The machine allows Tali Digital to expand into new market applications. 'Because of the larger table size, we can now print on oversized perspex sheets, FSU's and corrugated board, which we couldn't do before. We're very excited about the possibilities it opens for our business.'
Ipex Machinery officially acquired the Screen Wide Format agency in the third quarter of 2014. ‘Ipex sees wide format digital printing as a growth area of the printing market in South Africa, and with the acquisition of Screen, namely the distribution of the W3200 flatbed and roll to roll printer, we at Ipex believe that the Screen W3200 is the ideal solution for all digital wide format printers in South Africa,’ said Lance Green, Product Manager at Ipex Machinery.
Ipex representatives met de Abreu at FESPA Cologne in May 2015, where he expressed his need for a wide format and roll to roll printer with the ability to deliver the highest possible print quality at the highest possible speed. ‘The W3200HS can print at a production speed of 150sqm per hour, producing high quality saleable prints in either flatbed or roll to roll format. These two features, together with the automatic cleaning of print heads, nozzle mapping function, the stability of the linear drive of the print head and the standard colour configuration of CMYKLcLm and two Whites, intrigued and excited Orlando and so began the relationship with Tali Digital and Ipex,’ added Green.
The significance of this first installation of the Screen W3200 wide format printer is yet to be realised, however Ipex believes that this is the first of many installations of the Screen W3200 in South Africa. With the W3200 flatbed and roll to roll printer, Ipex has a product to offer the market with the ability to print on any substrate, using durable and vibrant inks, to produce high value products. The W3200 can be installed as a standard 85sqm per hour flatbed printer and upgraded on-site to a 150sqm per hour machine or fitted with the roll-to-roll option.

Screen's new Truepress Jet W3200UV HS Flatbed printer boasts high-speed printing of 150sqm/hr at commercial quality. Short-turnaround work or jobs with multiple requirements can now be handled with speed. The series uses high-precision linear drive motors to deliver instantaneous power to the printhead unit and print table. The ability to adjust the transfer speed of the heads allows the accuracy of drop placement for the ink to be optimised, enabling sharp printing of even very small characters. The adoption of piezo on demand printheads also achieves high-quality printing at an apparent resolution of 1000 dpi. The HS model is able to deliver photographic quality finishing thanks to its Fine Photo Quality mode.
NOZZLE MAPPING FUNCTION
With the installation of the nozzle mapping function, in the unlikely event a print nozzle becomes clogged, another nozzle will take over its operation. This ensures continuous operation with no loss of either productivity or image quality. Note that not all processing can be recovered with this function. The printhead unit has been fitted with new proprietary UV lamp shutters. The panel monitor can be used to easily adjust the respective intensities of the left and right UV lamps to any of 100 levels. The new system provides improved control of heat-sensitive materials, adhesives and odours from cured inks.
VERSATILE INKS
The Truepress Jet W3200UV series uses brilliantly coloured, flexible proprietary UV inks. Unlike standard UV printing inks, these inks do not crack when the printed media is bent, so the Truepress Jet W3200UV series can be used to print on tarpaulins, wrappers, and other media that will be bent or stretched after being printed.
White ink (optional) enables a variety of applications, including printing onto coloured media and transparent media. It is especially effective when used for printing onto decorative signs in windows and metal plates, and ensures superior colour saturation during colour printing onto any type of media.

TOUCH PANEL MONITOR
The adoption of a touch panel monitor featuring a newly developed user interface provides intuitive operation even for relatively inexperienced personnel.
AREA VACUUM SYSTEM
An area vacuum system that divides the printing bed into six zones is now installed as a standard item. The suction strength and vacuum area can be controlled according to the size and type of the media. This allows any material to be fixed securely, delivering consistently stable printing.
PIN SYSTEM
The printing table is equipped with pop-up type registration pins that enable smooth positioning of media. Any media can now be set quickly and accurately.
A RANGE OF PRINTING POSSIBILITIES
MULTI-LAYER
A multi-layer function providing precise overprinting of up to eight layers is now installed as a standard feature. The new function allows each layer to be set individually with the most suitable print mode. This improves productivity and enables each job to be output at optimum quality. Thanks to their high-definition flatbed mechanisms and outstanding productivity, Truepress Jet W3200UV systems make it possible to take on previously unrealistic large-size multi-layer jobs as regular work.
Thanks to its advanced UV curing and high-precision flat printhead transfer systems, the Truepress Jet W3200UV series is able to print up to eight superimposed layers. The lower layers can be rapidly built up in high-speed mode, with the top layer printed in high-quality mode to create an attention-grabbing raised finish. This function makes it possible to quickly output materials with embossing and other ‘three-dimensional’ effects.
BACKLIT DAY-NIGHT DISPLAY
The Truepress Jet W3200UV series is capable of creating a day-night display that uses ordinary ambient light for daytime display and integrated backlighting for nighttime display. While the top and bottom layers have the same design, the bottom layer is printed with a different half tone density, making it possible to reproduce the same density during the day time as at night time (three layers).
MATTE AND SILK
UV curing has the unique ability to create a matte finish when performed quickly and gloss finish when performed slowly. The W3200UV series takes advantage of this feature by using its proprietary UV lamp shutter to precisely control the exposure timing of the UV lamp. This enables the creation of matte or silk finish textures whenever required.
TRICK BACKLIGHTING
Trick backlighting combines backlit panels to produce a unique effect. While the light of the panels is off, reflected light displays the front-most image layer. However, when the panel lighting is turned on, the backlight illuminates the design and lettering printed on the mask layers. Different design effects can be produced during the day and night time, making this medium ideal for outdoor advertising.
