Careful planning and efficient organisation are prerequisites to successfully complete any project on time. In the construction and property development market, respecting project schedules can affect the financial viability of the whole investment. Delays may result in increased interest payments, a rise in construction costs and even the loss of investment resources when public funds contribute to project financing.

Over 150 years ago, on November 24th, 1859, Charles Darwin published his theories „On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life." By the sixth edition the name had shed its verbosity and evolved into the abbreviated (and somewhat catchier) title, „The Origin of Species." Not only is 2009 the anniversary of the publication of this monumental work, it also marks 200 years since Darwin's birth, and to celebrate, the Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (Tarragona, Spain) has launched two educational exhibitions, one in Spanish and one in Catalan, featuring attractive graphical displays that invite visitors to trace the English naturalist's life and learn more about the theory of evolution.

Mexico's Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art—home to an important collection of both Mexican and international art and named after one of the country's greatest painters of the twentieth century, Rufino Tamayo—recently organised an architectural competition to design a new building at Atizapán (in the State of Mexico), which would not only store the many works of art not currently on show but also include ample exhibition space of its own, effectively becoming a sister museum to the space-strapped original building in downtown Mexico City. Mexican architect Michel Rojkind, whose practice is based in the federal capital and has been rated among the top 10 design vanguard firms in the world, teamed up with Danish colleagues, BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) Architects and won the competition with a design for a cantilevered building, the form of which when viewed from above is inescapably, and somewhat controversially, that of a cross—but more about the shape later.

Epson has developed inkjet technology to enable uniform printing of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays that brings the launch of next-generation big-screen TVs closer to reality. Overcoming the uneven distribution of the organic materials was the last major obstacle hindering the production process; now the only tasks remaining are improving the lifetime of the materials and lowering production costs.
